Rep. Ellison Statement On One-Year Anniversary Of Accent Signage Shooting

Statement

Date: Sept. 27, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Accent Signage Shooting, which killed six people in Minneapolis:

"Today we reflect on the violent loss of life that happened in our community one year ago. It is hard to believe that after Minneapolis, Newtown, Aurora, Tucson and the Navy Yard, Congress has failed to pass common-sense legislation to keep our communities safe from gun violence.

"Sami Rahamim, the son of Accent Signage owner Reuven Rahamim, has traveled the country to tell the story of the day his father was killed. He spoke on Capitol Hill earlier this year and attended President Obama's State of the Union. Congress should gather inspiration from his courageous work and pass legislation that keeps our communities safe from high-capacity clips and reforms our background check system.

"Our nation has endured too many tragedies like the one that took place last year in our community. It's long past time to do something about it."
