Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) made the following statement after the Senate passed a continuing resolution to fund the government and prevent a shutdown. The bill now heads to the House of Representatives for approval.
"Minnesotans want Congress to get things done, not shut down the government," said Sen. Franken. "Today, we passed a bill to keep the government open and prevent the damage that a shutdown would do to our country and economy. Now it's up to the House, and I hope they do the right thing so we can get back to the work the people sent us here to do. It's time to put aside the political brinksmanship we're all so tired of watching come out of Washington and focus our efforts on putting people back to work, improving education, and strengthening our economic recovery."
