Congressman Tierney Calls for Action to Rectify Steep Flood Insurance Increases

Location: Lynn, MA

More than 3,000 Essex County residents ae facing sharp increases in flood insurance premiums after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revised flood maps across the country. Congressman John Tierney has consistently called on FEMA and Congressional leaders to address these issues.

"Following a recent redrawing of Essex County flood maps, local residents and business owners are confused and concerned as they learn of their placement on the maps and as their flood insurance premiums and rates suddenly increase. Many of them had little to no warning that this would happen. That is why I am pleased that FEMA answered my requests to come to Essex County and discuss these matters directly with area residents," Congressman Tierney said. "Moving forward, I will continue to aggressively work with my colleagues in the Massachusetts Delegation to address the designation and affordability concerns that have arisen from these new maps."
