Congressman Joe Kennedy today released the following statement in response to the Army Corps of Engineer's final environmental impact study for South Coast Rail. The proposed rail project will provide commuter rail transportation between the city of Boston and the South Coast of Massachusetts.

"From creating new jobs to supporting innovation and industry across the South Coast, this project will provide a critical infrastructure link that will drive economic development in the region," said Congressman Kennedy. "As we work towards strengthening our local economies and tackling still stubborn unemployment rates, approval from the Army Corps is a major step forward. I'd like to thank Governor Patrick, Secretary Davey, MassDOT and the tremendous leaders on the ground in Fall River, Taunton and New Bedford who have tirelessly championed this important project."
