Graves Votes to Fund Government, Defund Obamacare

Congressman Sam Graves (MO-06) today voted for the Continuing Resolution (H.J. Res. 59) that keeps the federal government funded through December 15, 2013 while simultaneously defunding Obamacare, which continues to be a drag on the American economy.

"Obamacare is an unmitigated, disastrous train wreck," said Congressman Graves. "It's bad for the American people, it threatens middle-class jobs, and it hurts our economy. It places unconstitutional mandates on Americans and is already resulting in a bigger government, but not better care. Today, the House demonstrated leadership in voting to both fund the federal government and remove the country's largest obstacle to job creation and economic growth. It's up to the Senate to move this bill forward now."

Recent polling data demonstrates that Obamacare is more unpopular than ever. A whopping 68 percent are concerned about the impact the law will have on their own personal healthcare according to a September 17th Fox News poll, while a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 52 percent believe Obamacare will result in increased healthcare costs for themselves and their families. Overall, 57 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare (CNN, September 11) and a majority 51 percent want Congress to cut funding (Rasmussen Reports, September 17).

A pair of June Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports found a number of Obamacare's key activities and critical programs are incomplete and behind schedule. Additionally, the Obama Administration has announced that it would delay several key provisions of the law, including the small business exchanges and later the employer mandate, though not the individual mandate requiring all Americans to have health insurance.
