Gallego Statement on National Voter Registration Day

Press Release

Date: Sept. 24, 2013
Location: San Antonio, TX
Issues: Elections

In observance of National Voter Registration Day, The League of Women Voters of the San Antonio Area today held two events in the 23rd Congressional District in Texas to promote voter registration.

Texas is among the least participative states in the country. On average, less than 50% of the voting age population casts a ballot. In 2012, Texas was 48th and 44th in voting percentage for the Presidential and House Elections respectively.

"Our Democracy is stronger when more people participate," said Congressman Gallego. "Our society functions best when the public is involved in public affairs. Voting is a constitutional right. The first step in making your voice heard is to register to vote."
