Messer Supports Plan to Delay ObamaCare for One Year and Repeal Medical Device Tax

Congressman Luke Messer (IN-06) issued the following statement today after Republicans announced that the House will amend the Senate-passed Continuing Resolution, which stripped provisions to repeal ObamaCare. The House plan would delay ObamaCare for one year and repeal the law's tax on medical devices:

"I commend Speaker Boehner and party leaders for this common-sense approach. It reflects the will of millions of Americans who want to keep government open and shut down ObamaCare. Our resolution will accomplish those goals while repealing the medical device tax, which is funding this bad law and killing jobs in Indiana. I hope the Senate will carefully consider this common-sense proposal."

Messer is an original cosponsor of the Fairness Amendment, sponsored by Representative Tom Graves (R-GA), which will delay ObamaCare for one year. He also was an original cosponsor of H.R. 2682, the Defund ObamaCare Act, which was added to the original House CR to fully and permanently defund ObamaCare.

As Republican Freshman Class President, Messer recently initiated a letter signed by 35 of 37 freshman Republicans urging House Leadership to repeal the medical device tax. He also has cosponsored legislation (H.R. 523) that will repeal the tax.
