Today, Congressman Luke Messer issued the following statement after House passage of H.R. 3102, the Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act:

"I applaud today's passage of the House nutrition and food stamp reform bill. The bill saves taxpayers $40 billion and preserves the safety net for those who need it most. Most Hoosiers agree that those who can work, should work. This bill restores 1996 welfare reform requirements that encourage people to lift themselves out of poverty by finding gainful employment. It also helps states require recipients to work, get drug tested and become self-sufficient. These are all steps in the right direction."
