Rep. Waxman Votes Against Increasing Hunger in America

Statement

Today, Rep. Waxman voted against H.R. 3102, Republican legislation that would cut $40 billion in basic food aid for poor children, seniors, and the disabled. The legislation would deny basic food assistance to nearly 4 million Americans next year, including nearly 346,000 Californians. The measure passed by a vote of 217 to 210.

"Today, I joined with religious and community leaders across the country to stand up for America's most vulnerable families who are struggling to put food on the table, including more than 1.6 million individuals relying on food assistance in California," said Rep. Waxman. "We must do everything we can to prevent these cruel cuts from turning a serious hunger problem into a full-fledged crisis. Food benefits amount to only $1.65 per meal for families struggling to put food on the table."
