Lance Statement Regarding President's Decision to Ask Congress To Authorize Force Against Syria

Location: Flemington, NJ

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ 07) today released the following statement concerning the situation in Syria:

"Yesterday the White House released an intelligence assessment that the Assad regime killed at least 1,429 people -- including 426 children -- in a chemical weapons attack.

President Obama should come to Congress regarding this matter prior to the use of military force, as stipulated by the Constitution. The Congress should return to Washington at the earliest possible date.

I will be returning to Washington tomorrow, September 1, to participate in a classified inter-agency briefing on the Syrian situation."
