Terry Calls For Congressional Approval of Air Strikes in Syria

Date: Aug. 30, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) today made the following statement on the situation in Syria:

"I believe President Obama must seek Congressional approval prior to authorizing air strikes in Syria.

"Any military action must be clear in its purpose, strategic in its execution and have well-defined goals. I have yet to hear a clear strategy on Syria come from this White House. Presidential leadership and a clear explanation of our strategy is important because it will take the public's confidence and Congressional will to sustain any military action President Obama deems in our national interest.

"The President must call Congress back to Washington so that we can have a debate worthy of the American people and whether or not we should be sending their sons and daughters into harm's way."
