Dingell Statement on 9/11 Anniversary

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI12) released the following statement marking the 12th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

"Twelve years ago--in the wake of the great tragedy that truly changed the face of our nation--we came together to join as one in prayer and remembrance. From every walk of life and every race, color, and creed, we emerged further galvanized in our duty to protect the rights and freedoms we hold dear, united as Americans.

"Today, we remember those lives lost and forever changed on that day and each day since. We also honor the unlikely heroes who prevented further tragedy that Tuesday morning and pay homage to the men and women who serve our country here and abroad, tasked with protecting American ideals like freedom of expression, religion, and conscience.

"Let us preserve their memory by making a commitment to act in a fashion that will serve to promote a more perfect union and, by extension, the indivisibility of our country. The word "congress' means "a coming together,' and I believe that it is our role as elected representatives to embody that very unity and advance the interests of the American people. God bless the United States of America."
