Hensarling Statement on 12th Anniversary of 9/11, 1st Anniversary of Attack in Benghazi

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) issued the following statement today in recognition of the 12th anniversary of the al-Qaeda terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001 and the 1st anniversary of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

"It has been 12 years since our country was attacked and our world was forever changed when, on a bright September morning, an unthinkable act of evil visited our homeland. No matter how much time passes or how many years go by, we will never forget the lives we lost or the families who still mourn them and miss them dearly.

"Americans will forever recall the stunning heroism of our fellow citizens who responded to the chaos in New York and Washington with the courage that defines us as a people. After all, it was on that day that the war against terrorism was begun in the sky above Pennsylvania by a brave patriot and his fellow passengers who chose to fight back. Their fearless charge will never be forgotten.

"Instead of letting terror bring us to our knees, our nation stood tall and responded and rebounded in a way that has reminded the world that no adversary is too strong or severe to be overcome and defeated by the United States of America.

"The price of liberty--and security--remains eternal vigilance. We were reminded of this truth one year ago today when terrorists attacked our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing four brave Americans who had dedicated their lives to the service of our nation. As the House continues to investigate the events surrounding this tragic attack, our prayers remain with the families and loved ones of Ambassador Stevens and the other courageous Americans who honored us with their service and sacrifice. We owe it to them and the American people to find the truth.

"On this solemn anniversary, I join the American people in prayer and in paying special tribute to all who have given their lives since 9/11 in defense of our homeland and our cherished freedom. Their sacrifices continue to inspire a grateful nation every day as we continue the fight for a safer and freer world for our children and grandchildren."
