Committee Republicans Introduce Legislation to Reauthorize the Missing Children's Assistance Act

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

House Education and the Workforce Committee Republicans, led by Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), today introduced H.R. 3092, the Missing Children's Assistance Reauthorization Act. Chairman John Kline (R-MN) and Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) signed on as original cosponsors of the bill, which will fund the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and includes language from H.R. 3081, legislation introduced by Rep. Walberg to support law enforcement efforts to assist victims of sex trafficking.

Rep. Guthrie said, "I am pleased to introduce this important bill to ensure the critical work on behalf of America's missing and exploited children continues. This legislation is essential to ensure that coordination of state and local law enforcement efforts in identifying, locating and recovering missing, abducted and sexually exploited children continues. As a father of three, I am glad this law is in place and call on my colleagues to fast-track this legislation so we can ensure it is reauthorized before the current law expires."

"Since 1984 the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has helped thousands of missing children come home to their families. The Center has also made great strides in the fight against child sexual exploitation, and implemented dozens of programs to promote safety and crime prevention," said Chairman Kline. "The Missing Children's Assistance Reauthorization Act will ensure the Center can continue its work on behalf of America's children and families. I look forward to moving the bill swiftly through the House and Senate in the coming weeks."

Rep. Walberg said, "The Missing Children's Assistance Reauthorization Act strengthens the nation's commitment to locating and bringing more children home after they go missing. I'm also pleased Rep. Guthrie incorporated legislative ideas I introduced to provide technical assistance to law enforcement agencies to identify, locate and recover victims of child sex trafficking."
