Fitzpatrick: 50 Years Later, the Dream Lives On

Statement

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released the following statement Wednesday in recognition of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have a Dream' speech:

"Fifty years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and told the world that he had a dream -- a dream, as he said, that was "deeply rooted in the American dream.' A dream that called for an end to prejudice and discrimination, a dream that called a nation into action.

The charge of those now immortal words remain with us now- echoing from the Lincoln Memorial to the farm land and busy streets of Bucks and Montgomery counties. Dr. King's dream is still alive -- it ours to protect, keep, and advance through our actions.

Today, let us all rededicate ourselves to the dream Dr. Kings gave his life for- an idea rooted in the dream of our Founding Fathers- that all men are created equal."
