Katherine fully supports equality and civil rights. Discrimination of any kind cannot be tolerated.
As a state legislator in 2008, Katherine voted for a bill repealing a 1913 law prohibiting out of state couples from getting married in Massachusetts if their home state does not recognize the union. The repeal of this law paved the way for the recognition of out of state same sex couples. She has been a leading voice for increasing voter participation and reducing barriers to registration. In Congress, Katherine will continue to support marriage equality and fight to protect voting rights.
