Date: Sept. 9, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today vowed to continue fighting for Baltimore's minority owned small businesses at a meeting with the President's RoundTable, Inc. (PRT). Senator Mikulski met with PRT members to discuss pressing economic issues impacting minority owned small businesses including sequestration, the importance of access to capital for small businesses and protecting the mission of the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA).

"Maryland's small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They create jobs. And they are important to the communities they serve," Senator Mikulski said. "My great-grandparents owned a local bakery and my father ran a grocery store. I learned how small businesses help weave social fabric by hiring local workers and investing in their communities. That's why every day in the United States Senate I fight for small business and minority owned businesses in Baltimore, Maryland and across the country."

Senator Mikulski met with members of the PRT including Sheila Brooks, President of the President's RoundTable and SRB Communications; James Davenport, President, American Technology Corporation; Jeff Hargrave, President, Mahogany, Inc.; Kevin Johnson, President, Commercial Group, Inc.; Calvin Mims, Calmi Electrical Company; Donna Stevenson, President, Early Morning Software; Stanley Tucker, President, MMG Group, Inc.; Maurice Walker, President, Birch Advisors, LLC.; and Robert Wallace, President BITHGROUP Technologies
