Cicilline Celebrates 50th Anniversary of March on Washington

Statement

Date: Aug. 27, 2013
Location: Pawtucket, RI

U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline issued the following statement in commemoration of tomorrow's 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech:

"Half a century ago, Dr. King articulated a bold vision for a society where individuals were judged on the quality of their character, rather than who they were, what they looked like, or where they came from. Although our country has made significant strides in the time since then, we must continue this effort until every American can live their life with dignity and free from the injustices of bigotry and intolerance. As Dr. King once said, 'The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.'"

"I look forward to continuing this work in Congress and coordinating with state and local advocates in Rhode Island and across this great nation."
