Owens Statement on the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

Statement

Date: Aug. 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Owens made the following statement to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream Speech":

"Today marks a half-century since the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made his historic speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and hundreds of thousands of Americans marched on Washington to demand their government treat them equally," U.S. Congressman Bill Owens said. "Our nation has made tremendous progress over these 50 years. But, we have more work to do. Too many people still lack equal footing as they seek to earn the dream Dr. King set before us, which is simply the American Dream. I pledge to work with my colleagues with what Dr. King called "the fierce urgency of Now,' to address the things standing in the way."
