Serrano Statement on 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington

Statement

Date: Aug. 28, 2013
Location: The Bronx, NY

Congressman José E. Serrano released the following statement today in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

"The message of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom rang out from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the National Mall and across our nation--calling us to the high purposes of justice and equality. The truths of that day spoken by Dr. King and others still urge us on towards a better future for this great country.

"The civil rights of all Americans are only guaranteed by our ongoing struggle to preserve them. We must fight on to ensure that our nation continues to move more people from the cold darkness of despair and discrimination into the warm light of justice and equality.

"This is the work we were charged with on that day 50 years ago. And we will continue this struggle because in the words of Dr. King: "we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.'"
