Today Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Africa Subcommittee, released the following statement commending the Senate for their confirmation of important diplomatic posts on the continent of Africa last night:

"I am pleased to hear that the Senate confirmed a number of important positions within the administration, particularly the five officials that will serve in various posts at the Department of State and in Africa. I am especially pleased with the confirmation of Linda Thomas-Greenfield, our next Assistant Secretary for African Affairs."

"Assistant Secretary Thomas-Greenfield understands the importance of strengthening the U.S.-Africa relationship and is well-versed in the challenges and opportunities that the continent offers to our nation's strategic interest.

"Other notable posts also filled include the next U.S. representative to African Union and Ambassadors to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of South Africa, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I look forward to working closely with these new officials in prioritizing economic growth, democracy, and governance throughout the continent."
