Pingree Urges Veterans to Take Advantage of Free Legal Clinic

Press Release

Date: Aug. 1, 2013
Issues: Veterans Legal

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree urged veterans in southern Maine who need help with VA forms and appeals to take advantage of a free legal clinic this Saturday at the Portland Public Library. The clinic will be staffed with volunteer lawyers and will run from 10 am -- 2 pm. No appointment is necessary.

"Unfortunately, navigating the system of veterans benefits can be daunting and sometimes some good legal advice is necessary. And some veterans give up in the face of that complicated system. I'm hoping that veterans who are hesitant to apply, have had a claim denied, have a complexclaim or just need a little advice will take advantage of the clinic," Pingree said.

The clinic is being put on by the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project, Pine Tree Legal Assistance and the Maine Commission for Community Service.

Pingree urged veterans who take advantage of the clinic to bring their DD214 and any VA correspondence they have.
