Flores Votes to Delay ObamaCare Mandates

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed two bills that would delay implementation of the individual and employer mandates under the Patient Protection and Affordable Car Act. Following passage of these bills, Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement:

"Today, the House passed legislation that establishes fairness for all. The president's prior announcement of the delay of the ObamaCare employer mandate proved that the administration has come to realize the draconian effects the law will have on job creators and the American public. While relief from this "train wreck' on businesses is welcome, it still unfairly subjects individuals and American families to this ill-conceived move toward government controlled health care. While the administration felt the need provide relief to businesses because of difficulties in implementation, I voted to level the playing field and provide relief for businesses, families and individuals alike.

"I am still firmly committed to repealing and replacing this bureaucrat-controlled, budget-busting, job-destroying law. Simply delaying implementation of ObamaCare will not solve its underlying problem of harming employers, raising health care costs and destroying jobs. The timing of the administration's decision to delay implementation appears to be partially driven by politics. The employer mandate was conveniently delayed until after the mid-term Congressional elections, presumably to avoid potential election year losses.

"Rather than playing politics, we must focus on private-sector solutions with inputs from patients, health care providers and health insurance providers. Hardworking American families deserve commonsense health care reforms that strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and give them a say in their health care."
