Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Statement on Award of Presidential Medal of Freedom

Today, President Barack Obama informed Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) and the Hawai"i congressional delegation that Senator Daniel K. Inouye will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard released the following statement on the award:

"Senator Daniel K. Inouye has long been recognized as one of the most important figures in the history of our beloved State of Hawai"i. With President Obama's decision to present him with the Medal of Freedom, our nation's highest civilian honor, Senator Inouye joins a small group of outstanding Americans who have been recognized for their significant contributions to the United States.

"Senator Inouye's compassion and humility, along with an incredible love of country, have been an inspiration to me and countless others around the world. It is only fitting that we honor the life and legacy of Senator Inouye, one of our most distinguished soldiers from our greatest generation. Through this award, and the countless people he has touched in his decades of service, Dan Inouye's life and legacy will live on for generations to come.
