Today Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 5, the Student Success Act:
"A good education is vital to our economy. When students get a quality education, our economy benefits from a better prepared, more innovative and effective workforce, and our society benefits from a more capable, independent, productive citizenry. So today the House acted to open the door for states to create their own education standards based on what is best for their students, ending our current flawed one-size-fits-all federal education system. This bill empowers parents to choose the best schools for their child and values teachers based on their ability to engage and teach students, not on their tenure. It gives students the freedom to take advantage of an education system that is tailored to fit their needs; we must be diligent in making sure our nation's future leaders can reach their full potential. This bill is a great step toward that goal."
