Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) issued the following statement in response to news reports indicating that the National Security Agency has failed to adhere to privacy safeguards:
"I am deeply concerned about press reports indicating that the National Security Agency has broken privacy rules and may have failed to disclose certain violations. The laws under which the NSA conducts its collection activities contain important requirements and safeguards that are intended to protect Americans' privacy and civil liberties. Any indication that these requirements are not being strictly adhered to must be addressed thoroughly. Robust oversight of NSA activities is critical, and Congress must do its part to ensure that any compliance failures, if substantiated, are disclosed quickly and that the necessary steps are taken to prevent further violations."
