Ros-Lehtinen Welcomes Cuban LGBT Rights Activists To Unveil the Realities of Human Rights Abuses in Cuba

Statement

Date: July 31, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) made the following statement today, after meeting with two Cuban pro-democracy leaders and LGBT rights activists, Wendy Iriepa Díaz and Ignacio Estrada Cepero. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Mariela Castro shamelessly has come to the United States several times to receive LGBT equality awards to promote the political propaganda of Castro's oppressive regime. The truth is that there are no rights in Cuba, much less for the LGBT community.

I applaud the work that Wendy and Ignacio are doing to unveil the real story of Castro's communist Cuba as they denounce the abuses committed by these thugs toward all the people in Cuba, including the LGBT community. Wendy and Ignacio are two courageous individuals who refuse to be silent against this repression, and will continue to stand up for human rights and dignity inside and outside of Cuba."
