Today Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, along with Reps. Ted Deutch (D-FL), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and John Sarbanes (D-MD), introduced H.Res 308, a bill that expresses support for the ending of the division of the Republic of Cyprus, praises the recent efforts that have been made to accomplish reunification and emphasizes the important partnership between the United States and Cyprus.

Ros-Lehtinen said on the introduction of the bill:

"I'm proud to introduce this resolution today with my friends and colleagues, Gus Bilirakis, Ted Deutch and John Sarbanes. The four of us understand the tremendous relationship the United States and the Republic of Cyprus share, and we want nothing more than to see this issue resolved. For years now we have all been hopeful that there can finally be a real solution to the Cyprus problem, and it is my sincere belief that Cyprus is on the right track to making these hopes a reality. I have been extremely pleased with recent developments coming out of Cyprus, especially from the efforts of recently elected President Nicos Anastasiades who has expressed his commitment to reach a just and viable settlement to this nearly 40 year long division. I continue to support a just and viable settlement in Cyprus in which the true inhabitants of the island can determine their own future and finally enjoy the peace and security they have been yearning for."
