Mark Udall visited Valley Wide Health Systems' Guadalupe Health Center in Antonito today and highlighted how it provides affordable and accessible services to the residents of Conejos County and the San Luis Valley. Udall, a proponent of community health clinics and the important role they play across Colorado, visited the clinic as part of a series of events throughout the region, following stops in Del Norte and the West Fork Complex Fire site.

"The Guadalupe Health Center is providing hardworking families of Conejos County and southern Colorado with the health services they need to stay healthy and productive," Udall said. "Employees here exemplify the great work being done at community clinics across the state. We need to keep supporting them and their efforts to ensure that everyone, regardless of where they live or how much they earn, has access to quality health services."

Udall's stop comes during National Health Center Week, which highlights the role clinics like the Guadalupe Health Center and others across the nation play in delivering health services to millions of Americans. Community health centers serve cities and towns across Colorado, from Glenwood Springs to Lamar and Alamosa to Steamboat Springs. Nationwide, the centers serve more than 22 million people and produce $24 billion in health system savings each year.

Udall recently heralded the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' decision to award 17 community health clinics more than $3 million in funding under the Affordable Care Act to help uninsured patients throughout Colorado access affordable health insurance coverage.
