Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) joined the House this week in passing H.R. 1582, the Energy Consumers Relief Act and H.R. 367, the REINS Act. Capito is a cosponsor of both bills that rein in government regulations and provide for greater transparency.

"I voted for the Energy Consumers Relief Act because it serves as a check on the Environmental Protection Agency by providing for greater transparency, interagency review, and oversight of the agency's most expensive energy rules. It would also protect Americans from the president's war on coal by requiring that new billion-dollar regulations face a greater scrutiny.

"I also joined the House in passing the REINS Act which would require any regulation with a cost of over $50 million to be approved by both houses of Congress before it becomes effective. This would end the administration's ability to issue expensive regulations, like the Greenhouse Gas Standards, that would never be approved by Congress.

"Regulations under the Obama administration have cost states like West Virginia greatly. I will continue to fight regulations that are preventing economic and job growth."
