Congressman Kennedy Statement on Reauthorization of Elementary and Secondary Education Act

Statement

Date: July 19, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Congressman Joe Kennedy released the following statement today after the House voted to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), commonly referred to as No Child Left Behind. Kennedy voted against the Republican-led bill.

"Today's reauthorization was a chance to level the playing field in our education system and provide access to opportunity where it is desperately needed," said Congressman Kennedy. "Instead, House Republicans championed a bill that guts education funding, cripples protections for disadvantaged students, weakens standards in the classroom and makes it harder for teachers to do their jobs. If this country continues to let where a child is born determine the quality of education they receive, it is our economic future that will suffer most of all."
