Rokita: We Must Stop Obamacare Mandates for Businesses and Families

Press Release

Date: July 18, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita, a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after voting in support of two pieces of legislation, the Fairness for American Families Act, and the Authority for Mandate Delay Act, to delay the individual and employer health insurance requirement mandate passed into law as part of Obamacare. Both bills passed the House with bipartisan support.

"When the President announced he would illegally delay the employer mandate to reduce the devastating impact of Obamacare until after the midterm elections, Americans were left asking, "Why should big businesses get a reprieve when individuals and families will have to shoulder the burden of Obamacare mandates?'

"The administration doesn't have a good answer. That's why I voted today to legally delay the individual and employer health insurance mandates at the center of the train wreck that is Obamacare. These bills not only delay the disastrous impacts of Obamacare for families and businesses, but they give the American people more time to learn about Obamacare's true effects, and they give Congress more time to work for its repeal," said Rokita.

As more and more bad news regarding the harmful economic and healthcare consequences of the Obamacare train wreck comes to light, Rokita continues to propose and support reforms that actually reduce the cost of healthcare and reduce our debts.

Earlier this year, Rokita introduced the State Health Flexibility Act, which would return control of Medicaid back to the states as originally intended through block grants. Elements of the State Health Flexibility Act were included as part of the House FY14 Budget.
