Rothfus Votes to Empower Local Educators and Parents

Statement

Date: July 19, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement after voting for H.R. 5, the Student Success Act. H.R. 5 supports teacher effectiveness and enhances local control of elementary and secondary education by removing burdensome federal mandates and empowering parents and educators to make decisions in the best interests of their children.

"It is important that our kids receive the best possible education so that they are prepared to succeed," said Rothfus. "The current federal system of regulating education is a burdensome and one-size-fits-all approach that is weighed down with unworkable and unproductive requirements.

"The reforms included in this bill shift control back to those who know their students best by ensuring that local school boards and parents are making the important decisions that affect children's education, not unelected federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. Importantly, the bill frees teachers to implement their own innovative solutions that will best serve their students."
