Congressman Jim Bridenstine Statement on the Farm Bill

In the largest shift in farm policy since 1970, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Farm Bill without food stamps. The food stamps or "nutrition" portion constituted 82% of the total spending in the Farm Bill defeated two weeks ago.

Congressman Bridenstine said, "On the previous Farm Bill, 62 conservatives took a stand that we would not vote for the combined bill. While the Farm Bill presented today is not perfect, it is a step in the right direction. It breaks the unholy alliance between food stamps and farm subsidies which has resulted in decades of government growth and control of markets. Both of these huge programs deserve to be considered on their own merit. I consider it a major conservative victory to split these bills.
