Cassidy Statement on Morganza to the Gulf Advancement

Statement

Date: July 11, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today released the following statement regarding the announcement from the Army Corps of Engineers that the report on the Morganza to the Gulf hurricane protection system has been completed. Dr. Cassidy sent a letter to Secretary McHugh in May requesting the completion of the project.

"I am encouraged to learn that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has signed off on the Chief's Report and that the Morganza to the Gulf project cleared yet another major hurdle today. I hope OMB will favorably recommend this project to Congress so that it can receive further authorization and funding. In early May, I sent a letter to the Secretary of the Army stressing the importance of Morganza to the Gulf and urged the Corps to stay on track with approving the Chief's Report. Morganza to the Gulf is a critical hurricane protection project for the communities in Southeast Louisiana that provide energy and seafood for the rest of the nation."
