Rep. Sanchez Issues Statement Following Vote on Farm Bill

Statement

Representative Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) today released the following statement after voting against H.R. 2642, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act, which narrowly passed the House of Representatives earlier today.

"I am incredibly disappointed that the Republican Leadership chose to bring the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act to the floor for a vote today, without the inclusion of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) funding.

During my tenure in Congress I have been a strong advocate for SNAP, which is vital to the nutritional needs of many families across my district and the rest of the country. In fact, 11% of Californians rely on SNAP and to leave them without any other option to feed their family is nothing short of tragic. That is why I strongly opposed the bill today.

For more than forty years, a comprehensive and bipartisan approach on the farm bill has brought members from both urban and rural areas together on American food policy. House Republicans are breaking a tradition of compromise and leaving the most vulnerable Americans out in the cold."
