Identifying Strategies To Prevent Breast Cancer, Cong. Ros-Lehtinen Co-Sponsors Bill That Will Create A Commission Of The Best Minds In Biomedical Research, Business & Breast Cancer Advocacy

Date: July 9, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) co-sponsored legislation "Accelerating the End of Breast Cancer Act" that will create a commission focused on identifying strategies for the primary prevention of breast cancer and will identify methods to prevent breast cancer metastasis. This bill has 150 bipartisan co-sponsors in the House.

The legislation will create a commission comprised of the best minds in biomedical research, business and breast cancer advocacy to focus on the best manner to prevent this dreaded affliction and its metastasis. This legislation does not authorize new spending, but will instead use current federal research dollars. The commission created by the bill will cease its work in 2020, but a mid-term progress review would cause an earlier termination date if the commission's work is found to be ineffective.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Breast cancer is a serious and potentially fatal disease that affects a wide segment of our society. Identifying ways to prevent the spread or metastasis of breast cancer is very important. This is why I was pleased to have co-sponsored this timely bill and I urge my colleagues who have not done so to please support it right away. Bringing together the best minds available to combat breast cancer is a smart move and I'm hopeful for what they can accomplish."
