Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Republican Farm Bill

Statement

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed a Farm Bill that hurts Michigan family farmers and doesn't include funding for nutrition assistance programs:

"As is the case with a host of national priorities, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives continues to sadly play political politics on passing a Farm Bill for Michigan families and farmers. Once again, Republicans have turned passing a bill with historic, bipartisan support into yet another partisan issue in Washington. And regrettably, Michigan's farmers and hardworking families are the ones who continue to be hurt by their actions.

"The Senate has already come together in a bipartisan fashion to pass a Farm Bill that supports rural America and nutrition programs that aid our most vulnerable citizens. It's time the House did the same. Basic nutritional programs -- such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program -- and agriculture titles go hand-in-hand and should be voted on together, not split apart.

"I stand with family farmers and hundreds of agriculture groups who stand in strong opposition to this partisan bill. Instead of more political jousting, House Republican leaders should immediately bring the bipartisan, Senate-passed version of the Farm Bill to the floor for an up-or-down vote."
