Rep. Mulvaney Releases Statement on Failure of FARRM Bill

Statement

Date: June 20, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Mulvaney released the following statement on the failure of the FARRM Bill:

"The House failed to pass the FARRM Bill today. Recognizing the immediate needs of South Carolina's farmers, it's unfortunate this particular bill was 80% Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program...what most of us call "food stamps"...and only 20% agriculture. In fact, conservatives even offered an amendment to change the name to The Food Stamp Bill. It failed.

The food stamp program is out of control. It has grown 430% since 2001. And this bill did little if anything to curtail that out of control spending.

Though the bill failed today, this discussion is far from over. I look forward to working with both my own party and those across the aisle to put forward a bill that focuses on agriculture, not food stamps."
