Price: President's Energy Plan Will Raise Costs, Destroy Jobs

Date: June 25, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), responded to President Obama's speech on unilateral executive actions on energy and the environment at Georgetown University today, saying:

"Instead of working to lower energy costs for America's families, President Obama has announced he will circumvent Congress and impose, through executive fiat, new rules and regulations that will only make fuel and electricity -- as well as basic goods and services -- more expensive for hardworking Americans. His plan is projected to destroy hundreds of thousands of American jobs. This is a terrible idea, especially at this pivotal time.

"In 2008, President Obama told us his proposals would cause energy costs to "necessarily skyrocket.' Now, he's living up to that promise. At a time when family budgets are already stretched too thin, the American people need relief, not higher costs and fewer jobs. That is why House Republicans will work on positive solutions this week to expand American-made energy."

Congressman Tom Price, M.D., serves as the vice chairman of the House Committee on the Budget. He is also a co-sponsor of H.Con.Res. 24, a resolution stating that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the U.S. economy.
