Rep. Graves Votes To Expand Offshore Energy Production, Create Over 1 Million New Jobs

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14), issued the following statement after voting for, and the House passed, H.R. 2231, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, which would expand offshore energy production and remove federal government barriers that block access to America's energy resources:

"It's time to reverse the Obama Administration's anti-energy agenda and reopen America's offshore areas for drilling and exploration. With safe, smart offshore energy production, we can inject our nation's economy with the fuel it needs to thrive. The bill I voted for would create over one million new jobs, provide cheaper energy for families and businesses and strengthen national security. Let's loosen the government's grip so the American people can get about the business of growing this economy again."

The Offshore Energy and Jobs Act would require the Obama Administration to allow new offshore energy production in areas containing the most oil and natural gas resources. It would also require the Administration to conduct oil and gas lease sales that they have delayed or canceled. Since President Obama took office, the amount of America's offshore areas available for energy production went from nearly 100 percent to under 15 percent.
