I am troubled by today's Supreme Court ruling regarding the Voting Rights Act. The important work of protecting voting rights must continue, and it requires continued vigilance under the law. Our nation has made great progress in the last 50 years, but we must also acknowledge that those in power can too easily create obstacles for certain groups to exercise the right to vote. Native Americans who live in Arizona's District One understand this, as they and tribes across the U.S. have endured generations of discrimination and voter-suppression tactics. I call on my colleagues in Congress to take action and restore voting protections that have strengthened our country through the Voting Rights Act.
