Cotton Blog: Weekly Wrap-Up: June 24, 2013 - June 28, 2013

Washington Has a Spending Problem: On Tuesday, 6 year-old Levi White visited my office and we talked about his share of the national debt.

Financial Services Committee Hearing: On Wednesday I attended the Financial Services Committee hearing examining how the Dodd-Frank Act could result in more taxpayer-funded bailouts. I remain firmly opposed to Dodd-Frank and feel it should be fully repealed. This week I also sponsored H.R. 2547, legislation that would delay implementation of the Basel III regulatory capital requirements on community and regional banks.

Farm Bill Editorials: As you may know, the House recently considered the 2013 Farm Bill. I wanted to share two opinion editorials from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that might provide you with a little more information about my vote.

Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Roundtable Discussion: On Thursday I, along with several other members of House Republican Conference, had the opportunity to participate in a great roundtable discussion on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict featuring Dani Dayan, Chief Foreign Envoy of the YESHA Council. I always appreciate the opportunity to discuss this important topic.

Blueway Designation: This week I joined members of both the Arkansas and Missouri delegations in sending a letter asking Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to answer a series of questions concerning the Administration's designation of the White River as a National Blueway.

Disaster Declaration: Three counties in Arkansas's Fourth Congressional District have been declared federal disaster areas following recent storms, allowing them to receive financial assistance to recover from severe storms.

Energy Initiative: This week the President announced his new energy initiative. I believe this announcement takes his "War on Coal" to a full-blown assault on American energy. In contrast, this week the House passed two bills that will do just the opposite. H.R. 2231 and H.R. 1613 will increase American energy by opening offshore areas kept off limits by the Obama administration and facilitating energy production along the maritime border in the Gulf of Mexico.
