Pryor Pushes to Reduce the VA Disability Claims Backlog

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor today signed on to the Veterans Benefits Claims Faster Filing Act, a cost-neutral, bipartisan bill that would help reduce the veterans disability claims backlog by providing veterans with faster filing options.

"Too many Arkansas veterans are stuck in limbo because of the Veterans Administration's antiquated claims processing system," Pryor said. "Thankfully, the VA has created programs to accelerate turnaround time. Our bipartisan bill builds on these initiatives to ensure veterans receive their earned benefits sooner."

In May, the VA announced the Fully Developed Claims (FDC) Community of Practice Initiative, an online program that allows the VA to process claims in half the time of a traditionally filed paper claim. The Veterans Benefits Claims Faster Filing Act would encourage veterans to file claims online through the FDC program to expedite processing. The bill would also require the VA to post the average turnaround time when claims are filed. Finally, it would require the VA to inform veterans that they are eligible to receive up to one additional year of benefits when they file with through the FDC program.
