McCarthy: House Moves Forward With American Energy, Job Creation

Statement

Date: June 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement in regard to the House passage of the Offshore and Energy Jobs Act:

"This week, Americans were able to witness two different visions on how to fuel our economy. On the one hand, the President laid bare his war on coal and his steadfast energy policy to continue to have government pick winners and losers in the energy industry. This Democrat energy agenda will have a direct assault on job creation, ultimately achieving the President's previous goal to increase energy prices where "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

"On the other hand, House Republicans are supporting a different vision on energy -- one whose goal is to achieve all-American energy independence. I applaud the bipartisan passage of H.R. 2213, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, as it is another step towards our vision of energy independence by 2020 and I thank Chairman Hastings for his continued leadership on this issue. The House will not sit idle as the President and his Administration continue to ignore the technology innovations that have transformed the way we produce energy and the jobs they will create. We will continue to act on energy legislation that will create jobs, enhance national security, and offer a better standard of living for Americans. I urge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid take up this bill, the Keystone XL pipeline bill, our hydropower bills, and all the other energy bills passed by the House."
