Congressman Cantor Votes To Expand Virginia Offshore Energy Production

Statement

Date: June 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 2231, The Offshore Energy and Jobs Act:

"Families across the country are feeling the impact of rising energy prices as they prepare for the summer travel season. Middle class families who in 2001 spent 12% of their earnings to pay for their energy bills, today spend 21% of their income on the same bill. President Obama recently gave a speech promising to impose even higher costs on all of us through more regulation. House Republicans reject that plan and remain focused on lowering energy costs for working families and small businesses.

"The Offshore Energy and Jobs Act will jumpstart responsible energy production off the coast of Virginia and ensure equitable revenue sharing for the Commonwealth. This will have a positive impact on our economy, create thousands of new jobs and produce oil and natural gas to help heat our homes and fuel our cars.

"Thanks to the leadership of Natural Resources Chairman Doc Hastings and Virginia's Congressional delegation the House has acted numerous times to move forward with this bipartisan plan. It's time to maximize the production of our nation's energy resources, lower gas prices for working families and increase competitiveness for American manufacturers."
