McDermott Applauds the State Department's Decision to End Offensive "Faces of Global Terrorism" Ads in Seattle

Statement

Date: June 26, 2013

Today, Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) released the following statement after the Department of State decided to take down inflammatory bus ads as part of an anti-terrorism ad campaign in Seattle:

"I welcome the Department of State's decision to remove the 'Faces of Global Terrorism' advertisements from its Rewards for Justice Program, currently being piloted in Seattle. Their quick response to the community's concerns and willingness to engage is exactly what we ought to hope for--and expect from--our government.

""Most Wanted' lists have an important place in the identification and apprehension of terrorists, but the side of a speeding bus is not effective placement. I hope that with the Department's openness towards community input and Seattle's diversity and creative leadership, the campaign will be able to find more effective ads."
