Scott Statement on Supreme Court's Affirmative Action Ruling

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's judgment in the case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin:

"This decision is a victory for diversity in our institutions of higher learning. Today's Supreme Court opinion leaves in place the law articulated in Regents of the University of California v. Bakke, Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger, guaranteeing that affirmative action will continue to be the law of the land. In considering this case, the Court had a prime opportunity to dismantle diversity based admissions as we know it, but instead it sent the case back to the lower court to ascertain whether or not the process articulated in these cases has been adhered to faithfully."
