Maloney: Historic Triumph for Families Like Mine and Millions of Americans

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision to rule the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional and strike down Proposition 8:

"After raising three beautiful children with my partner of 21 years, the Supreme Court has finally recognized us as a family. Today is not only a triumph for families like mine but for millions of Americans who still face legal discrimination simply for who they love," said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. "Although our country has made historic progress towards equal rights and equal opportunity for all, our country still faces hurdles towards full equality."

Sworn in next to his partner of over 20 years, Representative Maloney is the first openly gay Member of Congress to represent New York. Sean and his partner, Randy, have 3 children together.
