Navy Grants Olson Request to Reestablish Clements NJROTC Program

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today applauded the U.S. Navy for announcing plans to fully reestablish the William P. Clements High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program in Sugar Land. The Clements NJROTC program was disestablished in June 2011 due to low enrollment numbers and converted to a Navy National Defense Cadet Corps. As a result, the ROTC program, Fort Bend ISD and the community successfully rallied to increase enrollment numbers.

"This is great news for an outstanding ROTC program," Olson said. "This exciting announcement is thanks in large part to theFort Bend ISD and the community who worked diligently to increase enrollment. The Clements unit continues to embody the core mission of the NJROTC program and produce exceptional future military leaders. I want to thank Assistant Secretary Garcia for his role in this decision and the committed community of Clements families for their fierce advocacy of this critical program," Olson concluded.

Olson contacted the Navy on behalf of Clements to promote their quest for reestablishment as a NJROTC program. He also arranged for Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Juan Garcia, to visit the Clements NJROTC program in person in 2011.
